Jousset 'Bubulle' Petillant Naturel

Lise and Bertrand Jousset are 2 of my favorite people in the world - funny, honest, genuine & they make great wine! Come in and I can tell you such stories but suffice it to say, they have been some of the most incredible vignerons that are just as hard-working as they are dedicated to having fun!!

And while I (of course) love ALL their wines - "Bubulle" just came back into the market here in Seattle so when I opened it up with some other friends (hi to the Todd’s!), I was super stoked to find it just as delicious as I remember!! It has consistently been one of the most finessed and elegant Pét-Nats that I have had the pleasure of drinking and I have a huge CRUSH!!.

From 45++ year old, Chenin vines grown in Montlouis-sur-Loire, this truly amazing wine showcases the soils (sand and silex over limestone) while also allowing the Chenin to shine! Bertrand says “Chenin is only Chenin and why do we insist on calling it Chenin Blanc when there is no Chenin red?” - he’s truly perplexed but in the most genuinely good-natured way that is always Bertrand! So I’m going to refer to it as simply Chenin in my crush email - you can debate as you wish

Everything in the cellar is done by gravity so there is no disruption caused by pumping. For the Bubulle, the fermentation takes place in 3 to 6 year-old barriques of 225 and 400 liters. And is bottled while still fermenting to capture those delicate, little bubbles - this is not one that will blow up! It reminds me more of a delicate Champagne than a Pet-Nat but there we are….

With a vibrant straw yellow color in the glass and that ripe Bosc pear dancing with a Granny Smith apple vibe - the most delicate mousse (delicious little bubbles) are accompanied by the same pear/apple vibe but bring along a rich, elegant stone minerality. The finely chiseled saline minerals dances with a bright, citrus minerality that brings incredible balance with a length that surpasses the bubbles in a way. To quote a good friend “this is a thirst-quenching Pet-Nat, made without sulfur, that happens to be a serious and elegant wine!”

And at a price point that will not break your holiday budget so come get it!!! Before i drink it all!!
