Barrigon "Tinto Remix"

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, spend any time in the shop and I’m certain one of us will start talking about our love of Mexican wine. So when i say the arrival of los Vinos Barrigones amped up that love to another level, you get it!! Every bottle I’ve tasted has been blow-you-away delicious!

Daniela, Julio and Xaime are a team choosing to explore terroir in a place more known for mezcal than wine. The Barrigon team calls central Mexico home - specifically Queretaro just north of Mexico City. Like a lot of our favorite regions, there are mountains (north) and rolling plains / valleys (south). and if you wanna visit, keep in mind that Barrigon is just to the east of Santiago de Queretaro in El Marques, where their vineyards sit at an elevation of 6300ft!

“Barrigón'' is someone with a big, happy belly (in dialect spanish-ish)! And Daniela, Julio & Xaime would like to point out that everything that goes to your belly should make you feel happy - should bring you joy!
Joy of life - companionship and respect for each other and our planet! This is the focus of this estate and i couldn't agree more -  “We don’t just make wine because we love it, we make it because we love to eat, we love to drink, we love to enjoy ourselves, we love to share and we are endlessly marveling at what each vintage brings to us.” well said, my friends! Well said!

This ‘Tinto Remix’ is mostly Tempranillo with a dash of Cabernet Sauvignon and smidge of Merlot,  (don’t you love the bottle’s phonetic spelling?) it’s a vibe - a let’s make wine approachable and stop with all the silly point systems and b.s.! EXACTLY!!!

Fruit comes from their estate and that of their friend Dolores Hidalgo in Guanajuato, which has a really similar elevation and soil composition. Fermented in stainless steel with native yeast for 17 days and then racked and left to settle for four months before bottling.

Bright, fun, irreverent, whimsical labels to match the pure, clean & OMFG good wine!! I sorta didn’t know what to think at first but the first sip was an AHA - get real, molly-moment! It was exactly the antithesis of snooty, pinky in the air, point system B.S. - it was pure and clean! Amazing and delicious!! Made me think … made me want another sip!

For me, bright shiro plums & turkey fig with rainier cherry & raspberry acidity - classic dusty leathery notes with dried olives - exactly what you want from Tempranillo with smidges of CS & Merlot! But hey, you tell me - what do you taste? We’re just having fun, right?!!!!
