Subject to Change ‘Disco!’

I’m gonna let some of you in on a secret - about 1000-years ago (or 7+ LOL), I met Alex (the explorer/ winemaker behind Subject to Change). We were in his warehouse/ winery in Oakland and he was very excited about the project but none of it was available in Washington state. We’ve run into each other a few times here and there but never really able to make the connection to get his wine up here. So, when I ran into Alex in Austria, I was super stoked to taste through his current line-up and catch up. He was very adamant about being loyal to his distributor who was not distributing in Seatle yet and though I was bummed, I admired that very much! Plus the wine was DOPE!

Anyway, fast forward to this spring and I’m in Portland where I happen to meet Dave & Lisa who —--- drumroll please —--- are the distributors that Alex was so loyal to!! GD - yes!! So stoked cuz now I can finally bring these yummy wines to my amazing community AND support a group of friends/winemakers/distributors that are so incredible!

Without further ado - please meet Subject to Change and their team! Plus Dave & Lisa who are also super amazing! which leads me to my current WINE CRUSH - Subject to Change skin contact wine that is f’ing rocking - DISCO! There are other Subject to Change wines that are equally as crushable but for some reason, Disco! is calling my name right now!

Planted in the 1970s, Hillside Vineyard sits right above the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas (in Talmage) and is tended to by Humberto Nunez with love and not much else (no additives, chemicals, pesticides, herbicides). The vines grow on loamy soil which brings all that minerality to the grapes. And maybe there’s something extra-magical about being near the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas….who knows?!!

Sauvignon Blanc grapes that go through partial carbonic maceration for 1 week (1/4 of the grapes in the tank were foot-crushed whole clusters, topped with 3/4 uncrushed whole clusters) so about 1-week skin contact. The resulting juice is transferred off the skins into stainless steel. From there, some stays in the stainless steel tanks and some goes into neutral oak barrels for a little of that oxygen exchange that can be a super game-changer.

Clean and gorgeous with passionfruit, grapefruit pith and orange blossom aroma’s - tannic from the skin contact but not too much to distract from the minerality and citrus-acidity!!

***NOTE!! the 2022 Disco! was released with 4 different color labels. The juice inside each bottle is the same! check out the insta reel for all the colors!!
